Max Planck Day at caesar

14 Sep 2018 - 17 Aug 2018 — Research Center caesar

On September 14, 2018, caesar opens its gates for all those interested in learning more about our research. Come and deeply immerse into the research field of neuroethology. Our scientists are looking forward to showcase our research to you and engage in fascinating discussions. Several lectures held by our research group leaders allow first hand insights into recent findings, debates and discoveries.

Lectures:

  • 18.00h: Introductory remarks by Director Dr. Kevin Briggman and Introduction to Max Planck by PR officer Sebastian Scherrer
  • 18.15h “Small brain, great performance: the fruit fly as model organism in neurobiology” (Dr. Bettina Schnell)
Fruit flies are able to perform complex flight maneuvers despite having a brain smaller than a grain of salt.
  • 18.45h: “What we can learn from the fruit fly” (Dr. Johannes Seelig)
The fruit fly is the perfect fit to figure out how neural cells control behaviour – a central question in neurobiology we aspire to resolve with our research.

Activities:

  • Put your senses to the test
  • A virtual stroll through the brain
  • Discover the nano world of the neurons
  • It’s not the size that counts: 3D brain models
  • … and much more!

Please note that our lectures and events will be recorded and uploaded onto our social media. Hence, some impressions of the audience might be recorded. You can find recordings of previous events and lectures at caesar online on our YouTube channel.
