Public Outreach Officer (m/f/d)

caesar is a neuroscience research institute associated with the Max Planck Society and is located in Bonn. caesar’s research is interdisciplinary with scientists from various research areas working together on the topics of cellular signal processing and the neural foundations of behavior. This ranges from studying the behavior of single-cell organisms to studying one of the key questions of neuroscience: how does neuronal activity give rise to complex and goal-directed behavior?

Public Outreach Officer (m/f/d)

to join us at the next possible opportunity. The position will initially be for 2 years with the possibility of continuation.

Job description

As the Public Outreach Officer you will showcase to the public the outstanding scientific research undertaken at caesar. To this end you will engage with school children and their teachers as well as the wider public, coordinate our public engagement activities and lead our newly established public lab.

Responsibilities

  • Continue, develop and manage our strategy for the institute’s public outreach efforts, interact with the leadership of caesar to help plan the future of these efforts and design and develop new outreach activities and resources.
  • Develop and implement internal and external communication strategies and produce material for a wide range of audiences, incl. support with scientific reports.
  • Plan, organize and execute internal and external (public engagement) events and organize courses for the interested public as well as internal events for scientists, students and employees.
  • Foster and initiate new interaction and networks with various stakeholders in the Bonn area (e.g. schools, city Bonn, University of Bonn, museums).
  • Work closely together with the PR officer to make effective use of the institute’s social media and online presence and to further develop the institute’s online activities.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or Masters degree with relevant experience in an appropriate discipline (biology, physics, chemistry, etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and in German.
  • Previous experience in science communication or outreach efforts is preferred, as is
  • prior experience in working with school children.
  • Knowledge in GDPR regulations and in GLP would be desirable.
